Furthest was a Mulie at 370 yds with a .30-06. Closest was 7yds with a .38 Special, 130gr. ball. Yes it is legal and I had nothing to use. Guns were out of town. Deer ran 100 or so yards and fell over. Bullet punched through the vena cava artery. I can tell you where it is if you want me to! Hit it with anything and they ain't going far.

32 yds with my bow.  Quartering-to shot that entered just (and I mean just) behind the shoulder and exited just before the liver on the far side.  100 yd massive blood trail led me to a 138 P&Y, 258 lb, 9 pt.  My three largest bucks have all been shot at over 30 yds.(archery) which is why I rarely practice closer than that.

Closest with a bow - 7 yds, farthest with a bow - 36 yds
Closest with a gun - 12 yds, farthest with a gun - 120 yds

Last one was 40yds. one handed with an Encore 7mm-08 with a 15" barrel.  Didn't see her come around on my right side as I was watching my hunting partner come down the hillside on my left.  I heard something...can't remember if she snorted or what but I slowly turned to see her staring at me trying to figure out what was different about the cedars I was in.  I was afraid that if I changed my stance to allow me to shoot two handed that I would be seen so I waited till she looked away then raised the pistol best I could without being seen and shot.  That was the first deer I had taken with a pistol and will forever be etched in my mind.

:D Evening Deer Hunters,

Sitting here checking on GB as I'd fall asleep if I just sat down. Tired!

Punched the ticket today - 12:20PM - on a nice 4 point to fill one of the tags I have here in Ol'Ideeeeeho this season. The other is a special drawing for anterless only.

Expected to find a doe today, but this buck made the mistake of jumping out of hiding and running in front of me at about 40 yds or so. Everything was OK for him until he made a right turn and ran directly away from me.

Bad move on his part, as I lucked out and put a 165gr. Nosler Partition at about 3100fps into the back of his neck - 2 or 3" below the antlers -  at about 60 - 70yds.

Bullet exited a couple inches below the left eye, making it instant light out for the critter.

Took a bit of a short cut back to the peeeeekup and the four wheeler as by way of the logging road it was almost three miles.  Gone are the days when I would take him out on a pack frame. Today I was wondering if I could get him loaded on Molly, the four wheeler, by myself.

Anyway, he is hanging and cooling and ready to bag before bed time.

Good day!

Keep em coming!

The last one I got was taken with a bow at 13yds.

The last one I got with any sort of firearm was at 40yds, and I really needed that 7mm Rem mag for such a long range shot

I shot a little buck yesterday at about 75 yards with my Marlin 336CS 35 Rem with a Leupold VXII 2-7x33mm shotgun scope. He was walking slowly in some pretty thick woods so I have to "thread the needle" so to say!  :)

Even though I keep 200 yard shots in 3 inches all day long when shooting out back, I usually pass on any shots over 100 yards.

Yesterday, made a 70 yard shot on an 8pt.  He was moving pretty quickly when I saw him.  "luckily" my PVC blind creaked when I had my gun up and he stopped, leaving me a nice 6" clearing to shoot through.  The rest of him was behind mesquite brush.

Longest shot ever was 110 yards.  Closest shot was 10 feet with grandpa's 30-30 when I was a kid.  I almost didn't take the shot because the doe came running toward me like a dog running to meet its owner.  I was so shaken (it was only my 2nd deer) that I missed the first shot.  She walked 3 steps and stopped.  I didn't miss the second shot.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

I'll add another one to the list.

I just shot a spike horn buck on Thanksgiving day at 25 yards. He came in, a big doe followed him. The doe got really nervous and walked off really fast. The little buck followed her. I decided to fill a doe tag and take the little deer, which I thought was a doe at the time. So, the bigger deer was out of sight, the little one was fast approaching a clump of thick balsams. I shot him throught the chest,  2/3 of the way up and just behind the leg. The bullet exited just behind the last rib. Not a bit of the paunch was even nicked. He ran about 10 yards then dropped. When I saw the horns I was surprised, but I had to tag him with my only buck tag. Mabey I'll use up that doe permit during muzzle loader season. The ole' 30-30 has struck again!

Nice 8-point lazed @ 210yds on a Mississippi food plot.  Buck was quartering away hard, the 130gr .270 Winchester Supreme Power Point + entered just in front of the 3rd rib, made jelly of everything in its path and lodged in the spine just beyond the buck's shoulder blades.  No exit.  Buck dropped as though lightning struck.

Also, big doe, 125yds, neck shot, same load, same result.

The winchester ammo performed great, and was VERY accurate in my M70.  It will be however my New Year's resolution to break out my reloading equipment and work up some premium bullet loads for my "deer" rifles (270, 25.06AI, 7mm Rem Mag, .308).

Another one! I filled my doe tag on a nice big doe. I was sitting on a log watching a trail 25 yards away. She walked up then put her head down to sniff something. She was facing dead on to me. I touched off my .50 CVA plainshunter and sent a .490 round ball through her neck and into her chest. She dropped like a rock. About 15 seconds later she picked up her head so I walked up and finished her off with a shot from my .69 smoothbore pistol. She probably would have died, but I didn't want her to linger. I'm sure she would have died just as fast without the extra shot.

25 yards

.490 roundball w/ 90 grina of Elephand FFg.

neck-to-chest shot, passed down and back through neck and chest

EDIT: This may interest you all. I took every specific range given for a kill on a deer and averaged them. I get 109 yards as being the average distance. That is including both the long range shots on cues deer and the short bow shots. Quite interesting.
