I have heard that thermacells are great for warding off bugs and that game can't smell them. Does anyone have any personal experience with them especially in canada? I've been 8 or 9 times to quebec and I leave in two days for another bear hunt. Just wondering. Thanks.

Just in case you guys wanted to know. Thermacells kept thousands of mosquitoes away from me while bear hunting and the bear I killed didn't seem to smell anything off. They are the best thing to come out in years.

IT's a small hand held device that heats a tiny pad and keeps bugs away. Type it into a search engine and you'll learn a lot.

Seems like I read in a posting last year that someone found a cheap replacement for the butane, like in a drug store or ? Anyone found a cheap replacement for them? Also, I've heard that when the blue pads are used up, save them, and soak them in Tink's 69 , or whatever, and you've got a great deer attractant also.

I have not used them out bear hunting, but it works great for deer hunting. I have had deer as close a 5 yards and they did not smell them. I will be taking mine to Maine on my bear hunt also.

I had deer within 5 yards this year while holding 2 Jon-E-warmes, one in each hand. I could smell them and I assume the deer could too.

How long will they stay working? Battery life and the juice inside the refill thing?

They say they will work for up to 11 hours on one pad and one butane. I think someboby had a cheap butane option. If they did I wonder what repellent you would use on the used pad? Buckfever

corbanzo, according to Thermacell, the pad will last 4 hours and the cartridge 12 hours. The refills come with 3 pads and one cartridge. So 12 hours is the answer.

I used them on a moose hunt last fall, they worked great. They also worked really well while fishing. We could leave one sitting on the seat on the boat and fish in a t shirt. It works better than anything else I have ever used on the ruthless alaskan flies and mosquitos.

We used them up north of Valdez last year in probably one of the worst mosquito infested are you would want to try. It worked great for the bugs. I have a mixed review of the bear smelling them though. I am not really sure on the bears nose ability to detect the smell.

Just picked one up at the nra convention. I plan on using it for early bowhunting season. I would also like to know about a cheaper refill for the butane. Like the tinks idea also.
