Even though we only have a small quota each year for beaver, thats what I consider myself a "beaver trapper". They're what I concentrate on and look forward to.
That being said I trap every species there is to trap around here, land and water, to get the most from every and all trapping season.

I like trapping coyote, coon, beaver, and mink and probably fox when I catch one. Coyote, mink, and beaver I get the biggest rush out of though and probably fox when I catch one.

Chipmunks, (bigger tougher and meaner than your mice Asa).  Fox, coyote, coons, ermine, bobcat, otter, mink, muskrat, beaver, fisher and unfortunately a few skunks.  I hope someday to concentrate on just a few of them but I just can't stand by and let any of them be.

I am a water trapper at heart.  Right now I am enjoying otter the most.  Just wish we were allowed more.  Beaver is my primary target, followed by coon.  Also trap a few fisher and marten as well.

I have the opportunity to trap about any species I want to, but I prefer to make majority of my line as land sets, and species targeted are:
coon
fox
coyote
bobcat
mink

I do run some water sets for rats and beaver, too.

« Reply #22 on: June 28, 2004, 06:04:10 AM »
i began as water trapper as so many others did and i love those beavers and rats but the otters are my favorite water animal.
as for the land line i would have to say fishers taken with footholds are my favorite. pretty exciting to find a bomb site where your set USED to be and a huge male fisher on a tight chain.

:D All, well I prefer furry ones! Ya my wife says I'm not really very funny? Coon are my favorite critter, with the "drought" there's hasn't been alot of water in the ponds and creeks so rats and mink have been a little scarce. Like to go after the canines when the snow cover narrows down their travels. Guess you could say I enjoy trapping most all of them!Later Ray

Beaver trapping is my work most of the year so I am a little biased there.

Fur trapping only ??  Red fox and cats
