Cartridge Manufacturing Question???
« on: June 17, 2004, 04:13:20 AM »
Does anyone know of a website or publication that gives a general description of how bullet components are manufactured then assembled? Specifically, I'd like to know how the brass cartridge is manufactured then how the individual components are assembled into the finished "bullet". I'm referring to the "hi-volume" environment. I'm a reloader and I understand the general steps for assembly I use but I was hoping to find literature that is written on the actual "manufacturing" scale. Thanks for any help.

Toby

Talk to the folks at Sierra.  I'm reasonably sure they will be willing to tell you anything that isn't a industrial secret.  Their loading manual goes into some detail, but I'd guess you want more than this.

They have always been open and helpful to me in the past.

Toby:  You might also contact the NRA, I recall seeing some film on the bullet making process and also loading of cartridges over the years but cant remember who put it out. :D    JIM

Toby, you may learn a bit of basics at the corbin site.  Once you get info on how bullets are swaged.  You will see then that the high volume systems and commercial systems are refinements in how to lock in the lead core etc.  JB
