On the SBH, the 4 5/8", 5 1/2" have the round trigger guards, the 7 1/2" and 10.5" have the square guard.  Also the 7 1/2" hunter version has the round trigger guard.

The SBH and BH gripframes are also different.  Those on the SBH are slightly longer.

Those with the round trigger guard also have a fluted cylinder instead of the full round one.   KN

not necessarily.  i have  a super black hawk with the round guard and the smaller blackhawk frame.   as far as i know it came that way from the factory.  and it has a unfluted cylinder.
i think it all depends on when the gun was made.

My S/S SBH and my blued BH are both 5 1/2 in.  Both have the same frame size, both have rounded trigger guards and fluted cylinders, and I bought each one NIB about 12 years apart.

The 4 5/8" and 5 1/2" Supers come with regular Blackhawk gripframes. The 5 1/2" ones come with the fluted cylinder. The big-bore Hunter,s come with a round gaurd on a Super Blackhawk gripframe.

As a note........ the Hunter models do have round trigger guards but they are of the longer SB variety and use SB grip panels. If anyone is interested I am in the process of replacing the grip frame on my Hunter with a Bisley grip and will have the SB Hunter grip frame for sale. It will include the trigger and hammer.
