I just started on my first kit gun,, a Polish AK ... so far im making good progress,, if this one is sucessfull when compleated,, i'll try another..
if its not it will be a great wall decoration lol....

Always wanted to try the screw together route on one of those AK kits...afraid I'll screw it up...literally! :oops: :shock: :grin:

the screw together build is the easiest i got mine last week and im already half way done....just waiting on a couple more parts to arrive to be able to finish it... and if it dont function on the wall it goes..
i did take the easy route and bought a 100% reciever that way no legal
hassels with it...

I have built several from scratch! Does that count?
I only build muzzle loaders now, but I used to have
access to a "STATE OF THE ART" machine shop and
some wonderful things came out of there in the wee
hours of the morning! (Ever see a Raven Arms P25
pistol fire from an "OPEN BOLT"/slide configuration
with a 25 round extended mag.! It was a sight to behold
even if it did just fire 6.35 mm ammo! or a Zippo lighter
that doubles as an over & under derringer? That was the
most fun I have ever had working for Uncle Sam!)
I have been an amatuer
inventor as log as I can remember. My first firearm was
a Matchlock pistol that I built ! Fired it once before my
Mother promptly confiscated it!!!
I never remember seeing it again after that?
Powder & shot was from a 00 buck-shot shell I found.
I think I was 7 or 8 years old at the time.
I was an adventurous fella' and I have never grown
out of it !

NRAJOE, your signature puzzles me? Surely your not promoting Che and his actions in the 1950's are you? I know his myth is used by revolutionists for the promotion of communism. all over the world, just like Nelson Mandelas image is. Most don't realize what these two mens actions actually consist of. By the way, in my life time, no revolution has ever been successful in unseating a bad ruler and replacing them with a good one! Most end up with worse than they started with! Case in point---Russia, China, VietNam, a multitude of South American countries, Cuba, several African countries. Violent people beget violence. Again, Nelson Mandelas group was machetteing children in the night to gain power in South Africa, so why would any news group promote him as a savior?

Patm41 I must admit I have been intrigued by the idea. What will the parts of the kit end up costing you in total when you are done? I don't know anything about building one of these kits, other than it seems scary as you have to have a certain percentage american made parts and I haven't a clue as to who makes what....S.B. I can't speak for NRAJoe but unless my glasses are out of focus and if you look at the Che picture closely it is President Bush's face. I assume it is tongue in cheek humor about the re-election of President Bush as a revolutionary idea! Good shootin'...

I have often looked at the parts kits in Shotgun news and at gun show tables.

But I have always decided that the BAFT and state laws were so complex, that it just wasn't worth the risk of becoming a felon and loosing my rights to vote and own firearms.

Before, I would seriously do a kit gun, especially on a heavily regulated firearm like an MAK semi-auto, I would want to have a lawyer I trusted go over the appropriate BAFT and state regulations with me.

As such I will pass on kit guns for just about anything other than a pre-1890 replica black powder muzzel loader.

The cost of building a AK kits will depend how mechanically inclined you are and what tools you have on hand...If you have a fully equipped shop as i do them my build will be alot cheaper than some one who had to go buy some special tools...

Some AK's that are parts kits are not imported as whole rifles ,,, for example now there are some real russian AKM's that are in this country as kits that were captured in a middle east conflict...There are very few Russian AK's in this country that were imported or war trophies ....

As far as the legalities go they are legal as long as they are compliant to the law... (adding the proper number of US made parts makes them US made rifles and not imported rifles,(very strange laws on these things)

There are several web sites that are dedicated to building AK's and others
and alot of questions can be answered by doing a little reseacherch
