Browning scopes the same as Bushnell?
« on: June 20, 2004, 04:44:53 PM »
Hi everyone.  I am newly registered to this forum but have viewing it for a while.  I have viewed a lot pages to find out if Bushnell makes the scopes for Browning but can never find a definite answer on this topic.  Can anyone help me out on this one?

BTW: The rifle this is going on is a Interarms 7mm magnum Remington and is used for big game. I was thinking 3-9 50mm.

Both Bushnell and Browning have said that Bushnell makes the Browning spotting scope when asked.  I first asked Browning what the warranty was on the spotting scope and they said Bushnell made them and warranted them so I would have to call Bushnell to find out the warranty.  I then called Bushnell and stated Browning told me to call them to see what the warranty is on the Browning spotting scope and they said yes they manufacture the Browning spotting scope which is essentially a Bushnell Elite spotter without the Rainguard and they had a limited lifetime warranty.  I would suspect you could follow the same inquiry with Browning.  It is more than likely that the Browning rifle scopes are made by Bushnell as well.  Perhaps the binoculars too.

Calling Browning would make sense as long as you get some one with some knowledge.  I am also afraid of getting the push off just to get you off the phone.  But if Bushnell does in fact make Browning riflescopes wich are they, the 4200 or the 3200?  Browning claims 94% light transmission and the 3200 I think is 88% and the 4200 is 95%.  I will call Browning maybe I'll get lucky.

Just got off the phone with Browning.  The customer care person told me that the company that makes Bushnell riflescopes is the same company that makes theirs.  She said she wasn't allowed to say which Bushnell riflescope it was.  When I asked which Bushnell scope is it compatible with she said "completely compatible with Bushnell Elite 3200".  Now I can sleep tonight.  One more question 40mm or 50mm?  I keep reading pros and cons for each, anyone with an opinion? I have always used 40mm and have never shoot anything with a 50mm lens that's why I am not sure on which one to choose.

I would opt for the 40mm version myself, but it is a personal bias. If memory serves (I would like to think it is), the 50mm version has an Adjustable Objective, which I don't like on a big game gun.

I checked the website and it doesn't say, but I am 92 1/3% sure it does have an AO.

The more I am searching through this forum, the more I don't want 50mm.  The main reason is the scope sits to high and may be uncomfortable to shoot.  I'm thinking of going with 40mm, the problem is now my scope choices have changed.  I want to spend around $300 and looking to see what's available for that price range.  If I spend more I think my wife will finally pick up a gun and then shoot me.

You can get last years VX-II 3-9x40 for WELL under 3 bills. I tend to be a Leupold slut myself. Of all the other scopes I have tried and sold the other brand that has stuck with me is the Nikon Monarchs. To date I have been very happy with them.

Searching through this forum, Leupold VX-II, Nikon Monarch, Bushnell 3200 and Weaver Grand Slam seem to be good choices.  I am still looking through forum to see which one to get.  I may even start a new thread for this topic. Thanks for your input I will definitely keep it in mind!

Ok,

I just bought a Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50......I love it!!    I see what you are saying about it being uncomfortable to shoot.  I have looked through my uncle's Redfield Ultimate Illuminator 2-12x56 and it is not a problem at all for me.......but if you need another choice that would fit your budget to the penny......it would be the Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40.  You can get one on ebay right now with the buy it now thing for $199.  The best store price you will get would be about $270.

How can you love a scope that makes your gun uncomfortable to shoot?
