I know this has been discussed in length, but I have some questions.
In order to sell a frame, do I have to have an FFL holder ship the frame?
And in what states are TC's a problem to buy and sell?

The frame is considered a firearm, so you need everything you'd need if you were buying/selling a Glock or a Taurus. California doesn't allow the handgun .45/.410 barrels, probably other states as well.

My understanding is you can ship yourself, but you must ship to a FFL.
When I sell a gun I ship from a FFL to a FFL just for the added peace of mind.

You guys had me convinced, but apparently someone needs to explain the law to our post office personel. I called my local post office and was told that all firearms must go from FFL to FFL. I've read the ATF refulations, and they say that rifles and shotguns can be send by an unlicensed person to an FFL. I told her that it was only the action, and was about the size of your hand. She told me that it was concealable, and so it had to be sent via FFL to FFL. That being said, don't call the post office, they don't know the law as it applies to their services.

Actually, I think handguns have to go through UPS or another carrier, not the USPS. USPS will take parts and long guns, but not handguns - as I said, I think this is the case.

I sent a frame to T/C UPS thru my business but encluded a copy of the FFL Dealer it was to be returned to.. If you go to the counter at UPS they want to open and inspect the contents, ostentatiously to check if it is adequately packaged, but some counters may balk at sending a firearm.. Probably it is less hassle to have the dealer send it for you directly and pay a few bucks.. cbagman

If you sell a gun it must go to an FFL holder. BUT you can ship a gun back to the factory and they can ship it back to you without going through an FFL holder. I have shiped guns UPS and they have never opened them.

Catfish, I shipped a Taurus revolver to Florida for repair but had to add the dealer FFL to get it back and they sent it to the dealer. Same with T/C when I sent the frame back for repair last fall. I just wouldn't try the US mail. cbagman

Reading on the BATF web site
I found out that the contract carrier ( ups, fed-ex ) By federal law Can not put any thing on the package stating that a firearm is in side

I have also heard, never loooked into it, that UPS will not back the insurance on a gun. Some stores will sell you the insurance but under UPS policy they will not pay on insurance for a gun :evil:

unless this policy is clearly stated, you lied on this shipping papers or what you are shipping is illegal they are under obligation to honer the services you paid for.

I tell you from experience that UPS will honer it's S/H on anything. As far as guns and ammunition go, just threaten to get the BATFE involved. They'll shut up very quickly and cut you a check. You'll need to know what you are talking about, but as soon as they hear anything about the police or BATFE they begin to think about bad press. While ammunition doesn't fall under the BATFE's jurestriction (for the most part) most people don't know.

Last year I shipped a Contender frame to T/C by UPS. I told the counter person exactly what it was, and there was no problem, except that it had to go Next Day Air. I got it back in about a week, by UPS, requiring an adult signature. And by the way, I called T/C first, and this was how they said to ship it.
