A 1:10 twist 243 should stabilize most bullets from 58gr-100gr with the best choices being in the 70-85gr range.  Each gun is a little different but the 1:10 twist was chosen for the 243 so it would stabilize the "deer" sized bullets (80-100gr) but still serve double duty as a varmit rig with lighter bullets.  As long as the light weight bullets are well constructed you should be able to get them to shoot.  Driving a light bullet too fast can sometimes create a rotational force greater than the strength of the bullet's jacket and cause the bullet to fragment/self destruct.  My 243 handi seems to like 70gr NBT's and 85 gr sierras, it does pretty good with some of the 100gr softpoints too.

I just put a Swift Premier 8-32x50 on my Ultra Varmint 243 and have been using the bulk 75gr vmax ammo from Cabelas for sighting in and ground hog hunting. I sighted for 200yds from a bench and the best group so far is 3 inches. Now I know from the many posts I've read that these guns get better with more ammo through them. My gun has shot 80 rounds,,,,40 rounds being the 75 grainers,,and I really can't get too excited about this bulk ammo.  The first 40 rounds were Hornady 58 gr vmax,,with a lesser quality scope,,and I got better groups,,but only shooting 100yds also.
I've read more posts from fellows liking the lighter ammo than the 100 gr heavier stuff.   Try it all,,,,it's fun finding the one it likes,,a bit expensive,,but none the less fun.
