Help on cleaning problem please.
« on: June 23, 2004, 08:26:40 AM »
I have a Ruger single six and a Beretta Stampede. You can only clean the bore from the muzzel end which is obvieous.
My problem is when I run a tight fitting jag with a patch through the barrel as soon as I reach the breach/end of barrel no matter how carefull I am the rod and jag slam into the frame opposit of the barrel if you know what I mean. This happends because I have to push so hard to get the rod and jag/patch through and when I get to the end of the barrel it just takes off and hits my frame!

I have been putting a bunch of patches in the frame to cushon the impact but is there a better way of doing this???
Thnk you for the help!!!

Birchwod Casey and a few of the other cleaning rod companies make muzzle protectors and stops for the cleaning rods.  Put a stop on your rod and a muzzle protector.  Set it so it stops just free of hitting the frame.

You can also unscrew your jag/slot tip, insert the rod into the bore, screw in the tip and patch, and PULL it out the muzzle.

We used to do this with M1 and M14 rifles to avoid wearing the muzzle.

It works with short brushes too.

Or, you can get an Outers flexible cleaning "rod", actually a plastic covered cable, that cleans from the breech end.

I wrap a rag around the firing pin hole and tie it behind the hammer

Get a Boresnake and you can clean from the either end of the barrel.

Thank you for all the input. I have a bore snake but it does not clean as well as I like. I like to really scrub the barrel. I'll look in to that rad stop thing. Thanks guys.
