HAND PUMPING A PRE-CHARGED PNEUMATIC RIFLE......?
« on: June 26, 2004, 03:10:00 AM »
Does anyone hand pump their PCP? How long does it take? Is it reasonable for casual shooting and hunting. Hunting uses only 1-8 shots typically...how many rifle charges do you get out of a SCUBA tank ( I know that this can vary with the rifle....)

I do!  The only PCP I currently own is a Talon.  It has a HUGE tank.  I use a Hill pump and it doesn't take take long.  I generally shoot 30-40 shots and then pump up.  If you don't run the tank down too far it won't take long.

offhand35,

While I don't use a hand pump, many years ago I bought a Compressor from a dive shop that was going out of business(I wanted to fill my own scuba tanks for diving).  As far as how long the charge will last it depends on the rifle.  Take my wife's Beeman Super 12(.20).  She shoots 15 full power shots before changing the 400 CC re-chargeable bottle.  I get the same from my Rapid 12/250(uses the same bottles).  We carry extra bottles in a backpack when out in the field hunting.  I will shoot 25 full power shots out of my Air Arms S410 .22 before re-charging it from a scuba tank.  Lawdog

Hello, Big6x6!
That is pretty much what I wanted to know! That Talon is a nice looking rig! How is the accuracy for squirrel hunting!

That Talon is one accurate air rifle!  Power is adjustable also.  I have mine shooting right at 20ftlbs with .22 Crosman Premier pellets.  It can shoot well over 30ftlbs with a heavier pellet such as a Beeman Kodiak.  This thing will tear a squirrel UP!!!  Low noise as well..
