Magtech Brass Shotshells
« on: June 26, 2004, 04:01:53 AM »
Hey Everyone:

Posted in the shotgun forum, sorry about my mistake. Hope some can help me. I bought some 12 guage brass hulls by Magtech. They take a large pistol primer. How is the best way to prime these hulls ? I don't have a shell holder for them. I have a MEC 900 Jr. press, but it takes the regular 209 shotshell primers. Thanks for any/all info as usual. Thanks in advance.

First get out the safety goggles and the ear plugs... Just as a precaution

Get a wooden dowel that is fairly close to the inside hull diameter and carefully align the primer below the pocket. Tap the case down over the primer (over a non metallic base).

Option #2 is to get on Ebay and see if they have any antique reloading tools.  There is one that will do exactly what you are asking for.  Looks a bit like a nut cracker.

BTW - you may be better off with rifle primers.  The pistol primers are soft and there is the possibility that they can set back into your firing pin holes if they are oversized.

Good luck

Tom
