i have some traps id like to 4 coil #3 victors what size wire should i use to hold the springs ?

Fish,if the original spring pins are not long enough,you must replace them with longer spring pins,before adding the extra springs.

Ray Milligan has a book out with step by step instructions on 4 coiling #3s
It's called coyote fever , when I find mine again I'll give you his # . When 4 coiling replace the regular spring pin with 5/32s I'm not shure , and use 1.75 coils on the off side.. I think Milligan has an ad in t&pc I'll check..

years ago Milligan had an article in T&PC also on this very subject. He called it the "poor man's Sterling" and it was all on modifying the older style #3 victors, including the 4-coiling process. The article included detailed steps for replacing the stock spring pins and how he formed new ones with a jig in his shop.

I use 3/16th's smooth rod and bend it with the attachments on my bolt cutters. I have even gone so far as to open up the holes on the levers if I couldn't find the right size rods. Worm

I've been 4 coiling #3 victors since they had low levers!!! I make my own spring pins. What I use that has worked for over 20 years is to go to a welding supply store. They have a copper colored welding rod that is PERFECT. I mark one with a marker as a pattern to transfer to others. I bend them in a vice with a hammer to get a good bend. This works great with NO problems...unless you put large springs on the outboard side...then you may get some pin bending. I've go traps that have had this pin for decades with NO problems at all.
