Old frame
« on: June 29, 2004, 08:34:38 AM »
I picked up an old contender frame serial number 15000 with the .44 hot shot barrel. I bought a 7-30 waters super 14 for it, and the action closes but it wont open. Had to drift the pin out to get it to open. Do the super 14s fit the old frames? I am new to the contender, so please bear with me. The lug on the 14 is bigger than the old .44. Thanks- Tad :D

Old Frame- not converted..
« Reply #1 on: June 29, 2004, 09:18:19 AM »
I have one of the old frames and it was not the easy open frame. It had a conversion done by TC and I think it cost approx 40-50 dollars for them to fix it where it will accept any Contender Barrel. I'm sure someone on here will know more since I'm just getting into this myself.  I have since traded for two more new frames. There might be someone around besides TC that does the conversions but TC guarantees everything they make and work on.

I had similar problems with my older frame.  I had TC do the conversion and am very happy.  Have not had a single problem with any of the barrels since I had the conversion to the newer style.

I have never had any problems with newer barrels on old frames, although some of them do open very hard.
