Imports
« on: June 30, 2004, 08:35:38 AM »
I saw in a previous post a mention of Chinese knives
sporting "BRAND NAMES".
Many of them are now made in China much to my displeasure!
I ordered a Applegate/Fairbairn folder from Gerber a while back
and what do I find on the blade 'TAIWAN".
I purchased another Gerber yesterday. Nice Gerber trademark
etched on one side of the blade, "CHINA" is hammered boldly
into the other side of the blade with big block letters.
Even Mr. Thompson of "Cold Steel" must be out-sourcing,
Many of their blades now say "Taiwan" on them also!
Unfortunatly this is what the future of cutlery will be like,
American craftsmanship is being replaced by computerized
stamping, grinding and polishing machines over-seas!
The Jury is still out on how good these "Foreign" Knives are!
Oh well, The Japanese have been "Folding Steel" long before my
ancestors even knew there was such a thing, so maybe we'll
be ok with these Foreign Blades!  Even the ones from China beat
Knapped  flint most of the time!
