i swapped mine out the day i brought it home. i did not like them at all. so i put on a set of monti carlo wood off a handi rifle. but to answer you, yes you sure can      if you call NEF, i think you can get a set for around $50 brand new. but dont quote me, thats only a guess. i think they still list them on the web page under the "barrel acc program" here is a link to the page. www.hr1871.com

yes, you can buy a set of wood. If you just bought your 17, there's a brochure in the box for the barrel replacement program that includes some stock info. Otherwise call or go online.

It's $35 for wooden stocks, it is not clear if they fit them or just send them to you.

BTW, i considered going wood, but the syn. is starting to "grow" on me. It's light and strong for a kick around squirrel gun.

I'd be interested in a laminated stock, but NEF doesn't seem to make 'em.

NEF makes laminated stocks in camo and cinnamon in both straight grip and Monte Carlo style with matching forearms in adult size and the straight grip in camo and cinnamon in the youth size. They are all listed in thier "2004 Retail Parts Price List" (they were listed last year also)....<><....

Replacement stocks

I replaced the synthetic stocks on all of my Sportsters.  I bought a wood stock from someone who put a synthetic stock on their handi rifle.  I ordered the laminate stocks from NEF.  The laminate stocks were a little pricey, but I sold my synthetic stocks (for more than they cost new from NEF) on eBay.   You can call customer service at 978-632-9393 for current prices.  Here are some pictures of my Sportsters with their new stocks:

Good Luck.
