To follow up my range question, what time of day and/or what were the light conditions when you shot your last deer?
If God wanted plastic stocks he would have made plastic trees.

this deer was taken on 12-04-03 at about 8:30 AM he also had two other bucks with him . it was very bright and cold that  day

I shot at a lot of other deer  at  every time you can think of from first light to very very last night. Last year I got my buck at about 4:00 PM right after the farmer cut down all the corn in the fiels.
I do not think there is any magic time to see deer.

8:30 a.m. on a sunny, frosty morning.

It was a cold. cloudy day threatening snow all morning.  Time was about 11:15 am.  Buck was trying to sneak out behind me and stopped for a second in a small clearing to look back before going over the hill.  Fatal mistake that Blacktails make all the time.  Lawdog

About 9:30 in the morning on a sunny but cold day.  The drivers pushed him out of the balsams, and he ran out into a beaver meadow and stopped for me (at 175 yds).

It was about 0830 hrs, 12/01/04, I know it was darn cold, but I don't remember if there was cloud cover or not.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

I've taken more Whitetails in the late afternoon,  last season's Deer was taken about 1545 on a cold, clear afternoon.  Most of my Whitetail hunting is confined to North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.

A little after 10 A.M.  Clear and cool.  Frost had just melted off the exposed areas.  Three or four bucks on the hillside feeding.

5 minutes before the end of legal shooting hours, which in Florida at the time was about 6:10 PM.
