Witness search....
« on: July 03, 2004, 11:38:04 PM »
I did a search on the EAA Witness and can't find anything said that's bad about this handgun. I'm in the market to purchase a .40 caliber and this sounds like what I'm looking for in a semi-auto.

Has anyone had any experience with the .40 caliber in the Witness?

Nothing in a 1911 style grip fits my hand, therefore I can't shoot them worth a hoot.  :( I used to own a Series 70 Colt Government Model, but couldn't hit anything with it, so I sold it and purchased a Ruger .357 Mag. My Ruger shoots very accurately, but I'd like to own another semi-auto action.

Your opinions and experience is appreciated.
Thank you, Bowhunter57

I have a .40 barrel for my 10mm full size witness. Does that count?
I too am fond of the ergonomics of the CZ and witness. If the grip on the full size 10mm is not too big for your hands, I would reccomend it. There's a lot to be said for this combination. Load up the 10mm for a woods gun, or serious social encounters. Drop in the .40 barrel for inexpensive plinking. Or if you prefer, pickup a .357 Sig barrel and add a third cartridge into the mix! If you buy a witness, I would reccomend you also purchase a Wolff "Calibration" spring kit for it. The witness pistols appear to be undersprung and need the + power recoil springs to decrease the slide velocity. I have found the 16# spring works well with my .40 handloads, and the 20# with the 10mm full power loads. Mine took a bit of tinkering to make it reliable, but was well worth the trouble.

I have them in 9mm,.40 and .45,I don't have a 10mm yet,but I will. The .40 has been utterly reliable like the others and is very accurate also.It is my current cold weather carry gun.I put about 100 rounds a week throught it with no malfunctions so far, something I can't say for my Glocks.

Thank you for the replies, Tinsoldier and Savage!

I've been using my Ruger .357 Mag. for some close range coyote hunting, but would like to give one of those Witness .40 caliber pistols a try.  8) I hope the accuracy is reasonable out to 40 yards or so.

I'm pretty certain that it's going to double as a CC handgun too.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57
