Custom Barrel?? SSK,VV,BB..my 24in TC 7mm08 shoots MOA
« on: July 04, 2004, 02:01:37 PM »
I've been to their web sites(many times) and seen the claim for tighter tolerances, accuracy guarantees and their prices. I've got a standard TC 7mm08 barrel and it shoots MOA with reloads. Is a custom barrel worth the extra money?

Not worth it to me.  Just like your barrel, I have many factory barrels that shoot MOA and many other that are close enough (and they are not really considered MOA calibers).  Can't see spending the extra bucks for my purposes for whatever advantage might or might not be gained.

i looked at the costs for some barrels to get a custom 454 16.5 barrel it will cost me about 100 less to go down to joes gunshop pick up a 15 inch 454 send it over to dave white have his maximizer brake i think its called an make it 17 inches an put a 6 screw base on it , an have a 11 cut target crown on it an have the extra holes drilled an taped for it to take a hanger bar  or extra holes to take the full size forearm just to shoot or hunt mainly thats whati want it for its not worth 400 in a barrel well unless i got the wining powerball card but i dont see that going down soon i asked around a few months ago for that it would cost me 440 -500 for that set up for me
by doing it the way i just told you its about 300 with a few xtra depending on shiping

I have a few customs and have had several factory barrels. The customs I got primarily because you couldn't get factory barrels in the chamberings and set up I wanted. Only ever had one issue with a factory barrel and it was more of a cosmetic problem and not a shooting problem.
I will say the all of my Bullberry and VVCG barrels will quite easily meet the accuracy guarantee and if I had to do it over again i would still have them.
I wanted a carbine length barrel in .221 Fireball and had one made up from Bullberry. Cost a total of $330. .......Don't have a barrel like it from TC to compare but this one will make very long shots on prairie dogs that will compete with any similar chambered bolt rifle.

Slav - The next barrel I get I am planning on a .35 Rem rechamber to .358 *****  from Dave White w/Maximizer brake. Trying to get it done for less than $250.
