(more) Single shot bullet questions

I had a bad situation a few years back that I want to address since so many are really into the single shot pistol bullets. I was hunting with a buddy and we were both shooting similar loads out of our 7-30 Contenders (130 grn SSP bullets). He ended up with a 50 yard shot at a doe that was facing toward him slightly to one side. He shot it through the front and the bullet riccocheted off of the ribs. We recovered the bullet in the rear haunch. The darn thing wasn't hardly expanded at all. We switched to 120 grain Ballistic Tips as soon as we got home. I'm sure this was just an unusual situation and maybe the wrong label was put on some regular rifle bullets, but it was enough for us.  I know that other boxes of the same bullets worked well, because I shot a hog with the same load and it left a wonderful exit wound at 100 yards. I just didn't want to risk getting another box of non-expanding bullets. Has anyone else ever seen this problem?

Flatlander, I had the same problem with the Hornady 180gr. sspb in the 35 Rem. It just punched a 35 cal  hole all the way threw on several deer.  I have seen other peoples post, that said they have had good luck with them. I always figured I got a miss marked box of rifle bullets. Lone Hunter

If you are talking about the Sierra 130 grain SSSP bullet I've shot a BUNCH of game of all sizes and varieties with it from both the 7-30 and the 7 TCU 10" and it has performed flawlessly in every instance. It is now the ONLY bullet I use in those two rounds.
