Sizing die for Glock fired brass
« on: July 05, 2004, 04:14:20 PM »
A year or 2 ago, I saw a modified Lee lead cast bullet sizing die that was set up to resize the bulge out of Glock fired brass.

I just bought a KKM barrel and would like to find one of these dies or will have to try to modify one so that I can start reloading.

Does anyone know where I can find this die in 40 Cal. S & W?

I don't know about cast bullet die, but have used the Lee Factory Crimp die in 40 S&W to completely size brass.  The factory crimp die has a carbide sizing ring in the base.  This ring is a little larger than a normal case resizing die.  It will take out the bulge without overworking the brass.  I remove the adjustment stem and crimping ring, then push the brass all the way though the die.  The carbide sizing ring will smooth out any bulges.  I use a 223 case as a "spud" to push the 40 brass through the die.
The factory crimp dies should be available at lots of mail order houses.  Here's one that carries all of Lee's products:  http://www.factorysales.com/cgi/catalog/cart.cgi?dealer=fs&acct_num=1091358606.3998&product=90862

I have a Glock 20 10mm and replaced my barrel with a 5" KKM which has tighter chamber tolarances than the stock barrel. I don't get smilely case bulges anymore with even the hottest loads that I can put together.

also found bbl change takes it out

it is the unsupported feature of the glock factory bbl that gives the bulge, couple that with the pressure spike found with the interior ballistics of a .40 and you might want to reconsider the  use of the fired brass for reloads. all of that said. the change of bbl that you speak should relieve the problem of the bulge, I use a rcbs steel 10 mm die to resize the brass in two steps from first the 40 carbide to not overwork the brass. this again is usually not needed if you are using and aftermarket bbl, also means you can use lead bullets without the terrible lead fouling caused by the poly rifling.
