A Long Eye Relief or Intermediate Eye Relief 20 to 25 power that is made by a major scope manufacturer that would have excellent optics and would be good for load development, varminting, short range benchrest and long range benchrest.
Would you be willing to pay the same amount for this kind of scope that you would for a rifle scope of the same caliber?
Would you buy one?

IF(big if) you(I) could still see thru such a scope late in the day-early in the dim morning light.I'd love to have a very powerfull scope on some of my less recoiling varmint pistols.I have shot prairee dogs at 300 yards with a 6.5 JDJ and .223 14" T/C's and bolt action pistols in 7IHMSA and 7BR using a 2.5xto 8x LEupold pistol scope.I've tried Burris 12x scopes but the field of view seems to shrink way to much for practcal use. I'd have to try such a scope before plunking down my limited funds.Short answer is YES ,I'd buy one that worked.  jh

JH,
The quality I am describing would be the same as that of a Leupold LR Target scope.

Sir ,I am a charter member of TINSTAFL

If & when such a device hits the market, people will mortgage their 1st born to get one.
Physics dictate certain limits on mechanical/optical devices. Electro/optical devices(video equipment) can give some advantages by going digital. Even these are limited in range and acuity. It's like the laser /ranger scope available now, IF you want to lay out $2000+ for a HEAVY scope. It's cheaper to buy a good 3x9 scope and a pocket size laser range finder. The other option is to hunt to a closer position before shooting. Still ,I say I would buy one IF you can make it. Certain military projects do make this a POSSIBILITY.

Isn't it possible to have a LER/EER conversion done on a rifle scope? I was under the impression that this could be done, like the power boost conversions and reticle changes done by Siebert, et al? I know nothing about it, but it would seem to be doable, to me. Enlightenment, please.

Wally can and still does the conversions (36 Leupold BR to 20 LER or 24 Leupold to 16 power). He has also set up the first ever ballistic dot reticle with one of these conversions. More on that in the future. Right now Wally is the only game in town with LER high magnification scopes available in 20 or 16 power.

AS far as a major manufacturer doing something now or in the very near future-no.  I'm just trying to soften them (several scope companies) up at the moment
