I was wondering if the Springfield amory mil spec 45 stainless is
a good pistol to purchase for the price?
I have seen a bunch of goodies to update it in the Wislon catalog.
Are they an accurate shot right out of the box?

YES! I have an older 1911 A1 same as the mill spec today mine is parkerized a buddy has the pistol you are considering. Nether of us would ever part with these guns. I have done a few little things to mine but it still looks plain jane except real nice grips with allen head screws. The first thing you must buy is the wilson combat video #396 colt 1911 auto complete disassembly & reassembly. Out of the box you should get about a 2" group at 20 Yds. For me it is fun to do a little bit each year or when ever the mood strikes you. Great very long term fun. Good luck.

I've had one for about 4 months now and put about 1000 rounds through it. :-) Not one jam, stovepipe or failure to feed. The only complaint (if any) is the mil-spec sights were a little too small for me. You will not be disappointed.

I completely agree with Maine Woods. Springfield really is one of the top manufacturers and they offer some low-cost options that are very popular with people who customize basic guns to build custom guns.

I got rid of a Glock G20 and purchased a Springfield Mil-Spec. (I never could get used to the funky trigger pull on the Glock.) I really like the Springer! I've made a few small changes to it, such as grips and main spring housing. I've also converted it to shoot 450 SMC ammo. I wanted more power for woods carry and this fits my uses. The Mil-Spec has been flawless with it. MI VHNTR

I traded a glock 21 for my mil spec and am very happy with it. Like the other person who traded his glock I didn't like the trigger pull on either of the ones that I have owned. I have only had one incident with my mil spec and that was my fault for taking it apart and knowing what the hell I was doing and paid to get it fixed. But other than that I bought some checkered rosewood grips for it and I love the gun.
