Can one use regular .357 dies to reload .357 Maximum? Does the 6mm TCU take regular 6mm bullets (for reloading)? Between the two cartridges, which would be preferrable for deer, and what would be the max range for a shooter that is a fair shot? Thanks :cry:

The 6mm TCU takes the normal .243 bullet.

You could seat the bullet but couldn't size the whole case. The .357Max is to long for a .357Mag die. The 6TCU was originally developed to shoot bench and steel but shooters soon found out that it is a very good deer sized game killer. Me the 6MM would get the nod as a deer gun and lastly the 6TCU will kill deer further out than a fair shot can hit. With a T/C you have to be able to put EVERY bullet at POA EVERY time at the range you wish to shoot. Considering that I could count on one hand the number of handgun hunters who shoot game at over 100 yards, 99% shoot much closer and usually count 75 yards as max. I personally count 30 yards as max and I have been doing this exclusively since 1989.

I load a large number of .357 Max's a year and have never used anything but Lyman .357 Mag sizing die. The Lyman dies work just fine for .38 specials, .357 Mag, 360 Dan wesson and the .357 Max. The only problem that I had to over come was the seating die was not made to seat Pointed nose bullets. I had a RCBS .357 die set and it had a seating die that worked. By the way I don't think the .357 mag RCBS sizing die would work on the Max, it appears to be shorter that the Lyman.

I have Hornady Custom grade dies, and Lee Factory Crimp Dies. Would these work? Thanks for the replies.
