My first boar

I got my scanner running today so I dug out some old pictures. Hear is my very first boar, killed in sout Texas in January of 2001 with my Rem. sportsman 74 in .30-06

Looks like there is lots of chops on that feller. What do you think he might weigh close to 300lbs ?. Boy i'm sure itching to go hog huntig but the weather is so hot i don't know if i could get home without it spoiling or not.
I have a very large ice chest, But i'm still afraid of ruining the meat.

nice  hog!!!  i  like  that  one  i   favor  the  all  black  ones  myself   and  i  like  the  74  looks  alot  like  my 7400  glad  to  see  more  people  are posting pictures  i  have  alot  more  i  am  working on

:grin:  My dad also took a nice boar on that hunt. As it was our first wild hogs, we were'nt sure what to expect, but let me tell you them hog were DELICIOUS!  I had to do a few roasts in the crock pot for the boys at work because they liked it so much. I did learn one very important lesson on that hunt...Always check your rifle after you arrive when traveling.  my rifle was dead on when we left Wisconsin. On the first night of the hunt I missed 2 pigs. At the range the next day i found my rifle was shooting almost a foot high! i resighted and had that feller down that night.  
   The problem with hanging out on this site is that it keeps me REALLY itchin to go again, but I gotta wait till probly Feb. before I can make the trip.  Oh well, If I can't be hunting, reading everyone else's stories is the next best thing. Thanks everyone.

I have never had wild boar/hog meat but if it is just as good as deer... *rubbing belly*  great now i am hungry again

What kind of a load did you use in your '06?

Dusty, i always use remington 180 gr softpoints. I can only fire round (not pointed) bullets thru that rifle or it will jam every time. It may sound funny, but I love that temprametal ole gun, we've  put alot of meat on the table together, and it has taken quite a beating over the years. Believe it or not, I can get pretty good groups with that load too.
     That boar was shot behind the shoulder at 125 yds. He fell right over and started flopping, so i put one thru his brisket as he was on his side. He was dead with the first shot, I just like to make sure they know they're dead esp. when paying for the hunt and a wounded hog costs the same as a dead one.  BTW  bothe bullets were found under the hide on the opposite side of the entrance.
