New Frontier Beartooth Magnum?
« on: July 09, 2004, 10:35:14 PM »
Thinking about getting a cheap ML to blink around with and was wondering if anyone has one of these. I know you typically get what you pay for, but is it an ok gun for someone to get their feet wet with?

Thanks,
Tom

The Huntsman is a better deal, and a better rifle. Go to the link above and check them out.

if it isn't too late for my $.02 I'll give it.
The Beartooth Mag is not of the quality of the Omega or some knight rifles. it is however more than adaquate for shooting at the range and or hunting. I bought one for $139 @ Cabelas last year for my son's Bday. He is shooting it with a 4X Redfield scope mounted on it(that I had from another centerfire), 2 pellets of 50 gr 777 under a 240 gr Hornady XTP/sabot. At 75 yds it is about 1" for 3 shots,at 125 yds it opens up to 3". Which is not benchrest accuracy but more than mediocre for deer hunting in Pa.
I will say that it kicks like a mule though! It's short stock combined with light weight adds up to RECOIL.
I must add that no capper is needed to insert the 209 primer.
We used CVA universal scope mounts.
I shoot an Omega. It is a better rifle but cost 3 1/2 times more. But when you stop and think about a inline mz there really is not that much to them.
Oh yes the Beartooth does have a flimsy ramrod...toss it and get a 1 pc fireglass rod cut 3" longer than the stock one. 140ob

The Optima is in the same price range and if you like the break action I can recommend these.
