Just bought a new G23!!!
« on: July 10, 2004, 02:17:51 PM »
This is my first post on this board but I've posted to other GBO boards. The black powder boards most recently.
I was thinking about a G31 but decided to go with the .40 instead because of the ammo cost and that I've heard reloading .357 SIG can be tricky. This is my secong Glock. The first was a G17 that I gave to my brother when he needed a good peice (I should have let him have my SIG. I wouldn't have missed it as much). This G23 seems to be a good CCW size and that's what I have in mind for it once I've shot it enough to be confident with it. This one came with 2 fired CCI Blazer cases from test firing. The G17 didn't but I bought that one back when they came in tupperware type boxes and didnt have the accessory rail on the frame. Why do they send the empies now? I'll might reload for this since I have a set of 10mm dies. The only potential problem I can see is the notorious ka-booms associated with Glocks having less case support at the back of the chamber than other models. Is there much truth to this or is it all BS?
Oh well. I just got a new toy so I'm  a little pumped   . Can't
wait to shoot it!
Thanks.

I have a glock 23, it's a good pistol.  Ammo for it is in general much cheaper than for a 357 sig.  The empty shell cases are required by some states where they take them when you purchase a pistol and record the 'signature' of the pistol in a computer for future use should the pistol be used in a crime.  I think you'll be happy with your new glock.

I took it shooting today with 100 rds of Winchester  USA 180 gr FMJ and 50 rds of Federal American Eagle 180's. The Federals are noticably more accurate. The pistol fed, fired, and ejected as expected every time but that didn't surprise me at all. I'll, of course, be getting more ammo for next weekend.

Glock recommends to not shoot non-jacketed lead bullets in their guns...only jacketed...if I'm not mistaken Federal Eagles are straight lead...flintlock

These are jacketed and actually 165 gr and not 180 like I said above. Box is labeled "165 GRAIN FMJ BALL".
