what to use
« on: July 11, 2004, 05:48:27 PM »
I have a antelope permit and was wondering what barrel to use. My choices are 30/30 10" 14" 30 herrett 10" 35 rem 14" 44mag 14". I feel comfortable shooting all of them. Shots should be with in 50 to 100 yards. Thanks Slim

50 to 100 yards, anyone would work. But my order of preference would be.
1)30/30 a light pointed bullet in the 130 gr. area.
2)44 Mag 240 gr. soft point bullet.
3)35 Remington
4)30 herrett

If I was going to do a lot of walking or hunting in heavy brush I would look at the 10 inch 30 herrette but if I was going to be hunting out of a blind or stand and not moving around much I would use the any one of the 14 inch barrels. the 30-30 and 35 would serve you better if you should get a longer shot.
