Most of my comments are a reflection on handloading for the 35 whelen...

Excellent selection of bullets...
Loads of brass (.30-06)...

The .35 Whelen is one of the best balanced, and most flexible medium bores for North americian big game.  This cartridge can be loaded with bullets ranging from 110 to 300 grains.  While the lighter bullets are great for plinking and smaller game, many of the middle weight bullets are flat nosed. and this makes them superb hard hitters for deer, and Black Bear sized game.  The heavier weight bullets are 200, 225, 250, and 300 grain bullets, these are far superior to anything the 30-06 parent cartridge can utilize.  These heavier loads are totally adequate for Moose and the larger, sometimes dangerous, Grizzly and Brown Bears of North Americia.

Also while the .35 Whelen does not have the range of the 30-06, it shoots mush flatter than the 45-70.

Got an ae-mail from H&R 1871 today.  Their response was that they are not  planning on offering this caliber right now, but she did forward my comments to the Marketing section.  Again if enough people write those letters, marketing will get the message and offer that caliber.  So everyone that wants a .35 Whelen send in a letter.  In my letter I also asked that they make the .35 Whelen barrel available through the Barrel Accessory Program.
