My "black hole" is worn out!
« on: July 13, 2004, 03:38:32 PM »
Well I had a problem with my "Black Hole" target today. I shot through it and now I have a big problem with a carbon arrow stuck in my fence.

I knew the target was getting soft in the center and decided to shoot it only at 40 yards becasue the arrows were going in up to the fletching. This morning I shot at about 42 yards and when the arrow hit I heard a loud "CRACK" and thought to myself what the heck did I hit!  How did I miss that huge target? Yet I watched the arrows flight right into the center of the Bullseye!

When I walked down I could not see the arrow? Then I looked behind the target and saw the arrow stuck into the pasture fence.  Now I have an arrow which went clean trough the "Black Hole" target and flew further beyond it,  penetrating a pressure treated 2X4 at what must be close to 50 yards from where I was standing when I shot

With A 125 grain FIELD POINT!

I'm not sure I need to hunt with more draw weight then a 62 pound bow and a good sharp broadhead. I normally hunt with 65-68 pounds and practice with 60-62 pounds. I'm thinking I can just hunt and practice with 60-62 pounds after seeing this penetration!

Definitely have penetration! Sounds like it may be time for a new target.
Good luck getting the arrow out,
Stan

I did the same thing a few years ago and my Black Hole was almost new. I had a fenced in backyard with a sidewalk running down the middle out to the carport/garage. I took a couple quick test shots down the sidewalk at about 20yrds and I blew through the target and then through one of the 1x4 fence planks all the way to the fletchings. I then noticed that the tip was less than an inch from the tire on my wife's new Durango. Learned two things, one get a new target and two, use some common sense and always make sure nothing is beyond your target that you don't want to get shot even if it is a quick set up for a couple practice shots. Accidents happen.

i shoot at "the block" and i'm convinced that even if i lived to be 100 i couldn't wear it out enough to shoot through it... it seems i paid 50-60 dollars for it a few years ago but considering how easy it is to transport and how tough it is, i consider it money well spent
