Benelli R1 and H&K SLB 2000 User Comments Please
« on: July 14, 2004, 05:28:40 AM »
:D
Well, it appears that the H&K SLB 2000 is no longer distributed. There are a few sitting on the gun store shelves yet, so, any user comments on the performance and durability of these rifles?
Additionally, the Benelli R1 seems to be somewhat quirky. Please, any with experience with this rifle, offer your comments on durability, functionality and accuracy.
Thanks

:) Hello again

As I stated in previous replies, although the HK SLB 2000 may seem to be an "Ugly Duckling", I would not part with mine for anything.  It is a truly remarkable rifle once you get the hang of it.  I have had mine down to the range quite a bit since I got it a little over 10 Months ago.  I can place a 3 inch group just using the fixed sites and everytime I bring it out to the range, it always draws attention.  I have fired High performance hunting  (Winchester and Remington) as well as military surrplus (Korean and Greek) .30-06 rounds without a signgle problem, all functioned flawlessly in it.

For a .30-06, it has less recoil than a .243, it has a super smooth action, a light trigger pull and is as ruggedly built as my old Springfield M1 Garand.  Whenever I take it to the range, I always end up with at least 3 or more people asking to handle it or even fire it.  Several of the range masters have fired it and all are surprised at how well it shoots and handles after they fired a few rounds.

The HK SLB 2000 is also well designed as it breaks down easily for cleaning, can be disassembled into  basic componets for a quick and easy cleaning after a day at the range.  There is no hidden or hard to access parts or points and can be cleaned, oiled and reassembled faster than any of my other rifles, including my bolt action rifles.

It comes in several calibers and to change from one caliber to another, you just change the barrel as the receiver and magazines are designed to handle calibers 7X64, .308, .30-06, .300 Win Mag and the European 9.3X62.  So to change calibers, you simply change the barrel.  Unfortunately since HK no longer seems to export these to the US, it is hard to find the various spare barrels, extra magazines or scope mount.  So if you already have or plan on getting one of these HK SLB 2000s, try to get as many of the accessories that are already here in the US also.

Good Shooting

Thanks for the update Panzer Bill. I had read your original reply and found it informative, and now it seems that the 10 months of use has enabled you to give a response with some historical perspective. To me, this type of response indicates that appearances are deceiving and perhaps the rifle deserves a second visit at the dealer's shelves.  Thanks.
