Does anyone have the AO Scope Mount
« on: July 14, 2004, 02:23:47 PM »
I bought a 336 Cowboy 38-55 last year and want to put a scope on it.  I just bought a AO (or XO off of the Marlin site) scope mount which positions the scope further forward.  What are your opinions of this mount?  I need a cheap long eye relief scope to put on it?  Would that be a pistol scope?  What low powered scope should I put on?  I can't afford a Leupold....

I just put the XS mount on my 336C this week, and absolutely love it.  The hard part is finding a scope with the proper eye relief, I tried a shotgun scope on it, but it was too far forward to be of any use.  Then I took a 4X pistol scope off a handgun, and put it on.  It works, but I have to keep my head farther back than normal.  The ideal eye relief is in the "Intermediate" range, something like 10-15" or so.  I'm also looking for another scope, I just picked up another XS mount for my 1894 yesterday.  Anybody got a favorite cheap pistol scope?  I don't want anything bigger than 3X, and it needs to be able to handle 44 Mag recoil.  If I could find a shotgun scope with the right eye relief, I'd be set!

I have a 2x  Leopold Pistol scope I was going to put on mine.  I taped it to the barrel the other night and the eye relief appears to be way to long.  It was so far off I canned the idea and am looking for some better irons.

Steelersfan,
If you can find one of the old Weaver 2 or 4 power scopes they have a long eye relief and can be found at gun shows. I use them or Burris compacts, they will get you far enough from your scope that you won't get scope eye. Good luck..............Joe.............
