Has anyone ever used one of these......?
« on: July 16, 2004, 02:13:21 AM »
This post goes along with my prior post about the same subject.  I would like some opinions/experiences regarding several low priced scope manufacturers.  Winchester, Barska, Leapers, Guide Gear, Tech View.  Good, bad, any problems or concerns regarding any of these scopes would be appreciated.     Thanks,   Andrew

I've never even heard of some of these scopes, and I've been following the optics industry for a while now.

If you want a good low priced scope then look at the Bushnell line. but remember you do get what you pay for with scopes.  The lower priced ones will not be as clear and sharp as the top of the line.

I have a few tasco and bushnell scopes and they work well for what I use them for.

you didn't say what you are goning to put the scope on.

The scope will be put on a NEF .243 Handi which will be used for deer and groundhogs.  I am leaning towards a simmons ATV 4.5-14x40 at the present time.  Looks like a decent scope for the price ($70-80).  Have used several tasco and simmons in the past and have never had anything bad to say about simmons.  I love my aetec on my A-bolt and have compared its clarity with several Leupolds and did not see any noticable difference.  If I was building a $3000 competition rig then I would invest in better glass but for what I will be using the new gun for a budget scope should work just fine.

If you are insistant on getting a Simmons, check out the Aetecs on sale at www.theopticzone.com  Jon has a couple priced so that you won't beat them anywhere, and you won't beat Jon's service, either!

Just what I was about to say!  For a little more ($119 on sale at optic zone)  you can get the Simmons Aetec 3.3-12x44.  Can't beat the price as they are sometimes selling for up to $200.  Normally $189.  Good scope, but I would save about $50 more and get a Nikon Prostaff.  I almost forgot a scope brand that not many people look into.  I would get a Swift for your budget.  Can't beat them.  Better glass than Simmons, and can probably get a better scope for the same price as the on sale Aetec.  I almost got one but I saved up some more and got a Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50, I love it, got it for $270 after the shipping.

If I was you this would be the scopes I would look into:
Swift 3-9x40 for $130 (can probably get a better price)
Nikon Prostaff- 3-9x40 for $150
Aetec for $119

Would you agree with the choices I listed above, Zachary??

And even then it's overpriced.  The Rifleman is actually below the VXI, which is below the VXII, which is below the VXIII, which is below the LPS.
