jimbo444: Yes, you can shoot +P ammo in your Springfield Mil-spec 45 but why bother. I feel there is little advantage, either on paper or in real life situations, that the +P 'might' offer over standard ball or a cast reload with a nice fat nose at mil-spec velocities. Unless you are going out hunting something critter-wise, and the 45 isn't the gun of choice for that endeavour, the 45 auto will give you everything you need with standard mil-spec ball.
When you go to hot +P loads, you have recoil and increased return to target time. The mil-spec or the same flavor reloads are pretty easy to shoot and give you all you need. As for increased wear and tear on the gun - yep, you will get some but not enough to worry about. You can shoot Mil-spec through your Springer for a looooooong time before youhave to worry about replacing anything, like a recoil spring about every 5K rounds or so. BTW, a heavy duty set of recoil springs for that Springer, say a 22 lb set from Wolff Springs in PA, might ease some recoil, too. HTH. Mikey...
