Has anyone seen the new NEF Heritage Muzzleloader?
« on: July 17, 2004, 05:38:48 PM »
I was looking through the Cabelas online catalog today and ran across this Cabelas exclusive NEF Heritage Muzzleloader. It looks just like a Sidekick but only offered in Stainless Steel with a Mossy Oak Break-Up camo synthetic stock. Looks sweet and part of your purchase ($20.00) goes to help the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation.

That's a sharp looking gun! Did ya know that you can get the new Traditions Pursuit at Wal-Mart now, too?

Did you happen to notice the black ramrod? The pic of the Sidekick at Cabelas also shows a black ramrod, I like the looks of it. I wonder if the receiver on the Heritage is SS? In the pic it sure looks the same color as the barrel. On the Sidekick the receiver is clearly nickel, you can see the slight difference in color as compared to the SS barrel. I think I will contact Customer Service or Cabelas and see if my hunch is right.

I wish that they would come out with a couple versions with the laminated stocks. Cinnamon laminate and either a camo laminate or gray laminate. I would be in that line for sure.

Some of the ones I've seen lately that have been showing up in the gunshops have the black ramrod also. Wonder if a guy could order one for his regular Huntsman?
You got me interested now - post up what you find out from CS.
This would be a collector's gun in a few years, at least to those of us who actually see the value of the H&R/NEF weapons.

Busta,
Looks to me like they've taken the camo stock and opened up the camo forend from the camo goose/turkey gun to accomodate the Ramrod... Good lookin' piece... Anybody know if they offer the camo stocks for sale yet on the accessory sheet .... then of course makes no never mind to me anyhow cause I'd need a MonteCarlo ...with Ol' Timers I CSS w/o a scope anyway.... MTNMAN

My Sidekick came with the black ramrod.  It's actually blued with a painted black hardwood handle.   The extension is brass.  It looks good on my blued barrel rifle.  I think the handle should have been finished to match the stocks however.

Just FYI, you can pick up a bottle of Birchwood/Casey's Brass Black and knock the shine off the brass ramrod fairly well...

Here's a pix of my Huntsman with only one coat on the brass. You have to build up depth with several coats to really darken it.
