Any one out there know how to convert 209 to caps?. I just want to shoot loose in my guns.777. I dont feel the need for the 209s.Caps are doing it for 200+ yrs.All the hype of 209 needed for front stuffers is out of hand. with pellets i agree,MABY.I have a older tc with caps and it shoots fine with pellets,NEVER had a missfire. Depends on your rifle, most, not all rifles, come with all three options for ignition. In my state, 209 ignition is not legal, must use musket or #11. My black diamonds came with all 3 options and it is just a matter of changing the nipple type, but other guns require a change of the entire breech plug. On the same note, I found that musket caps are available without the flange from RWS and use that type because I can slip a piece of surgical tubing over ther cap and nipple to keep water out, works well. I have to agree with you. Even with pellets the 209 is not needed in my opinion. If they work for you great. I have switch my Encores to a breech plug adapted for the 25ACP case with small rifle primers. Which muzzleloader are you shooting?

Redhawk1,I have a bush-wackea in50cal.,also a cva staghorn.I shoot a TC Firehawk and a Knight 12 ga. that are #11 caps.They shoot without missing a beat.I think that the people who make our BP guns have us believeing that you need 209s & all the plastic do dads that go with them to make a bigger profit.The people who make the shockgun primers are lovin it.I dont like to have to double cheak every time i go out that i have the right primers with me.If they all fired the same caps a lot of the guessing would be gone.BP.is suppose to be simple,ha! not today!!.Sorry,i got carried away i guess.pan.

panman, there are some real advantages to 209 primers, are they necessary depends on whom you ask. #11 Mags will do the job 9/10 times but there really are times that I prefer the 209. Rain and snow is one time and really, I mean really cold weather, is another time. (I know I can here the real BP shooters saying if you used BP you wouldn't have to worry about ignition). One of the biggest knocks of substitute powders is their ignition point.

Another reason that some use the 209 is ignite those big magnum charges, either pellet or powder. Whether it be BP or substitutue it has a given burning rate and often you are shooting some of that out the barrel without ingniting it. So, really you would like to get all that powder burned before it is blown out the barrel, the hotter - more intense 209 gives you an opportunity to get that done, and like most everything else the 209's come in a variety of burning temps - so you can get really hot 209's down to the cool Remington 209-4.

If you are using the hotter 209's there is a school of thought that they might even be so powerful that they are blowing the projectile off the powder before the powder is ignited - big problem....

But, back to your problem I am not sure if there is a conversion to get your bush-wackea in50cal back to #11 or not but someone will let you know... the others know problem if they are not already #11
