Citori O/U won't go bang on the bottom barrel
« on: January 14, 2003, 04:52:02 PM »
I have a Citori Special Sporting Clays with about 10,000 rounds threw it. It started misfiring on the bottom barrel.  I removed the firing pin, inspected it, and cleaned it.  Next I switched the main springs around, to no avail.  Finally I shimmed the main spring for the bottom barrel.  This helped some.  I called our local gunsmith to order new main springs but he did not feel that this was the problem.  Any ideas for this annoying problem before I ship the gun off?

The Browning is a recoil rather than mechanical reset for second barrel. There is a little pivoting part that the recoil moves to reset it. Dunno just how to fix it but that's the part you got to get into to fix it. Happens from time to time on the Brownings. Any decent gunsmith that works on shotguns should know exactly what to do.

GB,
It is not a problem with resetting the triggers.  The hammers release everytime I pull the trigger, but sometimes the firing pin on the bottom barrel will just mark the primer.  The rest of the time, when the gun works right, the primer has a good dent in it.  When it misfires there is an audible click, just no bang!

Seems I recall the firing pin on that bottom barrel is much more angled than the top and also retracts more slowly during opening. This tends to wear on the end of the firing pin. I'd suggest replacement of it even tho it might look OK especially since switching the springs didn't seem to do it.
