SKS questions`
« on: July 19, 2004, 01:43:31 AM »
On your sks if you look at the very front of the reciever where the barrel flange is at the reciever you will see a horizontal pin going across the large boss on the reciever on the bottom side.  Or if its threaded you can look inside the reciever at the chamber you can see where the barrel just comes into the reciever area you can see threads. To me either one will do and I have heard the pinned barrels seem to be more accurate. But either sks will make a great dependable shooter.  If the reciever is milled you will see machining marks on it and if it is stamped you will see electric spot weld marks on it where it was assembled.  While milled recievers are stronger I believe the stamped recievers are more rare.  Now with that said the only stamped recievers and pinned barrels I have heard of and seen are the chinese sks's.  The other sks's are all threaded barrels like the Yugo's, Russian, Albanians and Romamians.  The only difference is the yugo's don't have chrome lined barrels so we must be very fussy about the cleaning of them.                       BigBill
