Are "cartridges" Shootshells or are they Bullets (using your terms) and how do you know who is talking about what? It has always confused me.

As to collecting I started about two years ago and have a few, hear is a picture of some of them.

Always looking for swaps or otherwise?? English RTO's or brass Shootgun Cartridge Cases  ::)

Welcome!! I feel that a cartridge is anything made to go bang, be it shotshells, rifle shells, or even artillery shells. DM

I am also one of the "throw them in a drawer" guys.  I may one day get them in some sort of display.

For the purpose of this forum we regard them all as "cartridge collecting" and welcome all here! Technically cartridges are brass rifle or pistol cases, and the bullets are the projectiles seated in them. Shotshells are normally not the same, as the load is usually seated below the end of the case, and mostly shot or some sort of slug designed for shotguns.

Hello
I have a few hundred "old" cartridges that I kept. Most are single rounds but I do have some boxes of them.
The only cartridges that I collect are military 45/70 .

i started collecting cartridges as a little boy,  was aquiring them before i was 5 . used to go to alot of gun shows with dad and grandpa , i'd see loose shells laying around on tables and ask to look at them  . gun guys would say you can have that if your interested and it all began . i knew some of those old gun cranks by first name for over 40 years , they'd even find stuff for me and keep to give me when i'd see them at a show . most of them are all long gone . my collection is in the many thousands of single rounds, possibly 10's of thousands . gave up trying to keep track years ago. well over a thousand .22  boxes and lots of others . anything that remotely looked like a cartridge , i collected . rimfire, pinfire, teatfire, inside anvil primed, maynard tape primed, centerfire, shotgun, rifle, pistol , caseless , dummy's, proof's, exposives, tracers, flechette's,blanks ,shotshells,  on and on. there's no end to what you can collect . i have rounds from 2m/m on up to 105 m/m  , 14 cal. up to  .700 nitro . most of the stuff i don't have now, i couldn't afford if i could find it .  but every year there's  new stuff  that comes out and i luck into rare stuff or find something i overlooked .  i don't collect as hard as i used to but i always look when i'm at gun shows , flea markets, auctions. collected old bullet moulds and reloading tools for along time but quit and sold all that off. its an interesting hobby .

Nice to see a few replies to this subject again, there does not seem to be many that collect and post about it (it would be nice to see a site dedicated to Cartridges "shotshells")

Or is there one that I have missed, I mean one with active forums not just the odd post!

PS.
I have seen the ones in the links!

I started collecting back in the 80's when you could find old stuff at the flea markets, gun shops and gun shows. I mainly collect shotshells but had a nice cartridge board going also. Had a nice collection of shotshells with lots of the old headstamps. Lost most of it in 05 but this year I started back on the shotshells. Some of the gun shops have now close and hardly any flea markets anymore so it will be alot harder trying to find the old shotshell I would imagine but I'll try.
