Gee, sort of a touchy fella.  I thought it was sorta funny, but I guess it didn't strike daddywpb that way.  I hate ta think what he would be like ifn some one called him sumpthin bad.

Now if I was a mean fella, I would write that if daddywpb can't see the difference tween the words "Traditional" and "In-line", I can see why he needs to hunt with a shotgun.

First, what a great mornin' to be able to come to this forum.

Second, Dear Mr daddywpb, in Crow Feathers very Brief statement about TRADITIONAL Rifles and Shotguns, there was NO ATTACK, just a small CHALLENGE. IN the event the gentleman is never CHALLENGED to lay down his inline, he will never have the chance to See and FEEL the beautiful CLASSIC lines of a TRADITIONAL rifle or shotgun. Saddest of all he will NEVER have an opportunity to smell the wonderful aroma of REAL
BLACK POWDER. To just be able to take game AS IT WAS DONE HUNDREDS OF YEARS AGO. If that is of no value to this gentleman and even you daddywpb, then feel free to discuss your INLINES on the INLINE
FORUM. I am sure Crow Feather and myself would love to have you
admire, enjoy the balance and feel of a TRADITIONAL Rifle or Shotgun, and certainly to smell the magical aroma of REAL BLACK POWDER!!

Crow Feather- In reading over the post in question, I've come to the conclusion that a pity party must consist of a group of traditional muzzleloaders sitting around feeling sorry for an in-liner who hasn't yet seen the light and bought himself a fine, wooden stocked, side locked front stuffer. We must not despair, however, for inside each in-line shooter is a traditionalist struggling to get out. And, given their thin skins, I believe the chances of success to be good.

Have a 62 cal Flintock Fowler.  Have taken small game with shot loads, rabbit, ringnecks, doves, so on.  Have also taken deer with round ball.  Must be the most versatile blackpowder arm ever devised.

Hey Crow Feather,
There were some smart folk back in the fur trade era, that still used those "rock crushers". I just may have to do a little convertin' of your mind. :) As you very well know, the rock crusher folks used those wonderful devices MUCH longer than the folks usin' those things you use.

:grin: I have a Jim Chambers 20gauge Eastern Fowler which shoots RB and shot great..The big lock is easy on flints and very fast.. I don't shoot it as much these days as the local rondezvous group has petered out, but we do shoot clay birds and paper at times. :lol: cbagman

:D I am  new here from out in Northern Ca. I have a Brown bess which  I trimmed the barrel down  about 8 inches and made it into a trade gun. I use 90 grains of 3fff with equal volume of #6 shot.This gives  me a nice pattern a around 25-30 yards,its  good on squirrels.Farrerhaven. :-)

Over the years, I've met a number of folks who have used the Bess as a fowler and deer gun with excellent results. Some bobbed the barrel and others were left as made. I know of one that was cut down to 32 inches and made into a half stock after it was damaged in an accident. The comb was also lowered a bit and it is amazing what a fine wing shooter it became. I guess sporterizing military firearms has a long and illustrious history.

Do any of the other companys make a good single-barrel shotgun/smoothbore in 20ga that's affordable? Traditions?..CVA, etc?
