re: Sig torture test

Hello...

While I was waiting to get a haircut this morning, I picked up a shooting publication and in it was an advertisement from Glock.  It showed about 5 different torture tests of Glock pistols:  ice, dirt, mud, underwater, being run over by a truck, etc.  The pistols functioned perfectlyevery time.  It was rather impressive if true.

Is anyone aware of any similar tests done on Sig pistols?  I am not an aficianado of Glock pistols - never owned one, never fired one - I just don't like the look of them.  I also never intend to use my Sigs in such adverse conditions - I wouldn't think of it.  But it is a stunning endorsement of a pistol when it takes such rough treatment.  I am aware that Sig pistols were considered by the US military as their service pistol.  Does anyone know where information about those tests is located?  Got a link?

Any comments?

P.S.- I ran a penetration test of my new P229 357 Sig in wet phone books after my haircut.  Penetrated a full at least 6" of wet phone books and well into the second book.  Perfect mushrooms from the 124gr XTP bullets in my handloads.  I was impressed at the performance.

Regards,
Gary

Go to galleryofguns.com, choose shooting times research center, choose gun reviews, scroll down to article: 10 grand sig, 10,000 round report.

Hello...

I read the article at the link you offered.

It's pretty incredible that a pistol could digest 10,000 rounds like that and show no detrimental effects.  I knew Sig pistols are excellent, but this is truly a 'torture test' if ever I saw one.  This matters more to me than running pistols over with trucks and freezing them in ice.

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

If the number of rounds digested with no discernable ill effects to the handgun is really your definition of a "torture test", then Glock has all the rest beat.  50,000 rounds is VERY commonly reported among Glock owners (I personally cannot attest to this, having fired "only" about 34,000 rounds through mine).  Even 100,000 rounds is not unheard of... Glock guns are GREAT pistols for reliability in terms of total rounds fired without malfunction.

The 10,000 rounds quoted in this thread would seem to me, based on Glock, Beretta, Sig, and others to be somewhat of a "standard" to which all handguns should at the very LEAST be capable of - not an exemplary or even particularly notable benchmark.

Best wishes,
Bawko

Since the Navy SEALs have been carrying the P226 9mm for many years, its safe to say these pistols have seen "real world" use and have passed with flying colors. If they didn't, the SEALs wouldn't be carrying them......they aren't stuck carrying guns they don't want.

Not to be a hypocrite, I carry a Glock 22 daily because it was forced upon me; prior to that I sold my SIGs and carried a Glock 32 only because I saw the change coming and hoped to at least be grandfathered with something I liked. Unfortunately my idea didn't pan out.  If we ever go back the other way, I'll gladly carry either a P226 or a P220 again.
