EOTech Holosight ???
« on: July 25, 2004, 06:31:11 AM »
I have a AR-15 and I'm thinking about put a scope of some kind on it. I'm looking at the EOTech Holosight, or something like it. Anyone use this type of sight system? If so what do you think? Thanks!

i have several sights on a lot of ar's, i choose the aimpoint  system, easier to use  quicker adj of dot size, the eo tech is nice fast but fuzzy at times, the halo sight is about the same, the reflex is a good sight but has wash out in bright light, i currently use the aimpoint on my patrol gun and house gun the aimpoint also offers a finer aimpoint  for long distance shot placment and hostage rescue shots

Today I recieved the Bushnell Holosight I plan on putting on my Anaconda and it looks like the real item.  Time will tell.

I haven't had a chance to sight it in yet but: 1.) it LOOKS great!, and 2.) the sight picture it provides is going to be just the cat's meow.

I've got one installed on a HK USC, and I really like it.  Mine's sighted in at 25 yards, but because it sits so high above the barrel the impact is lower as the target gets closer, but it is still close out to about 100 yds.
Mine is a slightly older model, so the buttons aren't as easy to use as the newer ones, but that is my only complaint.
One of the reasons I got it was that the reticule has no parallax error, but now I'm not so sure if that is a good thing on my particular application.  I'm pretty sure that since it is a 2-dimensional reticule on a 3-dimensional hologram, that they manufacture it so that the reticule appears to be at some far-off distance, which is great if you plan to shoot at far off distances.  I don't, as the USC is .45ACP.  Apparently, you can contact the company and order a custom reticule, and I've been thinking about asking them about a 3-D reticule that has dots at several apparent distances, such as 25, 50, 75, 100yds, etc, so that I can get parallax to work for me.  It may also help as a ranging tool, to use some constant MOA dot, like Shepard scopes do (unless they have a patent on that)
Sorry to get off the question a little, but the bottom line is that is is well constructed, works great, and a lot of thought and design have gone into it.  Fast target acquisition, constant cheek weld not required.  AA batteries have lasted me 2 years and counting, and don't cost as much as the camera batteries.
   Hope this helps.

I've got an EOTech on my Rock River AR.  I find it fast and accurate.  Haven't shot it any farther than 100 yards, but hope to do so soon.

Swapped out a mildot 4x-12x variable for an EOTech holosight on a RRA heavy barrelled varmint.
Please as punch.
Like Cataloula, I have been limited to 100 yards but can cover a silver dollar with 5 rounds at 100 yds using the EOTech.
What is really nice is both eyes open.
Decided to go with the holosight because it opens a number of possibilites that the scoped rifle does not.
Cannot see using the scope for "cqb" if needed.
Holosight is nice-point and shoot.
Whats not to like?

Well to tell you guys the truth I still haven't put a EOTech on my AR yet. Yep I know it's been two years since I posted this thread! To mount the EOTech the way I want to I have to change my upper receiver assembly from my current A2 (carry handle) to a A4 (flat top) so I can use the RRA Dominator EOTech Mount. I really like the way this set up works. I'll probably start working on this after hunting season..............I hope too anyway's!

Youngest Son was home from Iraq for two weeks in Feb.  His comments were that the EOTech was a much better sight, and was really sucking up for a replacement for his issue Aimpoint(?) he was currently using.

My friend is in Iraq right now with the 101st Airborne Division. He just switched from an Aimpoint to an EOTech. I haven't talked to him in a while so I don't know how much better he likes it.....if he even does. But he did make the switch.

I have a another friend at work that wants to buy two of my revolvers from me. If he does I'll probably swap out my upper and get the EOTech sooner then I planned!

Just bought my son a DPMS lower with a GG&G upper. It is the M4 version with flip up combat sights. He is going thru SWAT training now and also served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is going with the new Gen 3 Aimpoint. He is having to wait because the military has ordered a very huge amount. The claim is they are better than the Gen 2's.

He is supposed to rotate back in mid November. He is in the 506th RCT, 4th brigade. They didn't deploy until mid November 2005!

82nd airborne currently use both the aimpoint and eotech on their M4s.  Aimpoint is the normal issue.
