Going price for basic Springfield .45?

:D Afternoon Springfield shooters,

A local store picked up a good supply of what must be Springfield Mil. spec. 45s and are selling them at a few pennies less then $420.

The .45s come in three different barrel lengths, have wood grips, three (3) clips each and non-adjustable sights.

THE QUESTIONS ---- Is this a fair/average/OK price for a new Springfield of this type?

Also, is this a unit which can be up graded with aftermarket parts by a person of normal abilities? Barrels, sights, safetys etc.

Third, is there a better and/or cheaper way to come up with a good shooter?

I have always been a wheel gun shooter, with the exception of .22s, but even though I dislike chasing brass I figure I might be able to find a warm place for a .45ACP

Check with your local dealer for price. I bought a new Springfied a few years ago for $500.   It was one of the factory " Loaded" packages and had a lot of upgrades and a deal to buy  extra mags and accessaries.  Here is the factory site with factory recomended prices and all the bells and whistles, now go find a dealer that will work you a price.

Darrell;  I have one on lay-away that was priced at $399.00 at my favorite toy store, so your price is in the ball park. This is an outstanding weapon for the money and if you check the 1911 forum you will see that many recommend it as a starting platform to build the weapon you need or want. Also with just a little common sense and a little basic instruction there are many upgrades you will be able to do yourself. You will enjoy (read love) your new pistol. I have a loaded ultra compact that is one of my favorite pieces which is why I wanted another Springer. I like 'em.

If you like wheelguns, you might look at a S&W 625. Same great .45 ACP round but without the headachs of chaseing brass and reliability issues. Absolutely love mine.
p.s. Not sure if they have changed but my 96' vintage SA 1911-a1 was a jamming queen.
