I got a stock off e-bay,the seller said it could be a 95 chili or a swede,I think it is a 38 swede,it is a blond wood,all the metal is parkerized,buttplate,sling swivel,the barrel bands,and the nose cap.the hole in the handguard is alot smaller than the sight on my 95 chili barrel.it appears to be new,one small ding on the bottom by the buttplate.I got it to cut down into a sporter,but it is in such good shape,I was wondering if I should keep it as is ?are they a common stock ?what are they worth ? I don't want to wreck something that should be kept as is. my 95 chili action fits perfect. oh my what to do ???

I think you got good advise over on the other board ( or boards? ) you posted this to: don't muck with a collector's item. Or are you just fishing for offers?

Does it have a stock disc on the right side of the butt??  If it does its a swede M38 stock and there are plenty of these around right now.  They cost about $50.  The M1895 chilean does have a bigger rear site slot on the hand guard too.  The slot is longer.   You do have options here too if the M38 stock looks that good you could buy a swede M38 barreled action from Samco Global Arms and assembly it to your stock. I got one not too long ago and I built one and its not a bad looker too.  But all they have left is about 65% bluing but the numbers on the bolt/reciever will match and the bore will be good too.  They have a website so you can check them out.   At numrich gun parts is on the net too they had M1895 chilean mauser stocks with all the hardware too I'm not sure if they have any left you can look on the net too for them.                          BigBill

On my two 7mm & 8MM sporters I just built I left the orginal gun stocks because I want the guys at the local range an old military gun is kicking their butt's.

BigBill,the stock does not have a stock disk,also there are no finger grooves on the fore end, i paid $26 for it.I am going to keep it as is. That means I have to get a barreled action,I cant have a stock lying around without any metal in it,just not done in the civalized world. thanks,you are the person to give me info on the stock.

Ok it sounds like a chilean small ring mausers stock but is there a seal type stamp on the side of the butt on the stock?  I think it will have a seal with a small retangle with a date in it.  If its a long barrel stock there are M1895 chilean 7mm barreled actions at Samco Global Arms for $89 and I have a few of them and they have an orginal turned down bolt too.  BigBill

there is no markings on the stock,there are the numbers 160 with a crown above them stamped into the buttplate on top,the barrel channel in the stock dont match my 7mm long barrel.

The two long barrel mausers "swede M96 and the M1893 recievers interchange with each other and will fit in both stocks"  The M1895 has two little tabs that stick out so the swede stock won't fit it.  It seems to me the number with a crown is a swede thing because the use the last three serial numbers on there on their steel parts but not having any disc hole is confusing to me.  I wish you could post a pic of it in the album section here.  There are many small ring mauser stocks.  There is a '95 turk small ring too that some were 7,65mm and later changed to 8mm. I'm not sure if the butt plates interchange maybe someone changed the butt plate and its the wrong one on it too.                BigBill

sorry,but there is not any way for me to post a photo.what mausers have a blond stock,other than the swedes? I don't know much about mausers,that is why I ask a lot questions.the best way I found to learn,is to ask,then shutup and lisen.   :D    ed smith

The only stocks I have seen with finger grooves are the Finnish Mosin 91/30 "fatty" stocks and the M39 gun stocks.             BigBill

The only thing i can think of doing is to do a search for swedish/finnish mosins and see if there were any?  Back then we never know for sure who sold rifles to who or who captured what?  Some of the imformation/facts are still clueless.
