Bought a S&W 63 kit gun for $240 at a pawn shop today...
« on: July 26, 2004, 11:05:46 AM »
I was browsing the cabinet at a local pawn shop today, and made a deal for  a 4" S&W Model 63 Kit gun.  It's used, but in good condition.  I think I did OK on the deal - $240.  I wasn't really looking for one, but good deals are hard for me to resist......
Regards,

Tom

Great deal!  It's pretty tough to find one of those in this part of the woods let alone at a reasonable price.  Last time I went looking for one of those, I never did find one.  Ended up buying a Charter Pathfinder .22 for $100 instead.  It has been a good gun, including teaching the grandkids.  Enjoy that new gun!  My Charter may serve me fine, but will never get the respect that your 63 will.  Congratulations.  44 Man

I agree, you got a good deal on a great gun.  You will enjoy it.

good deal on a great gun.!!!.........bought a 4 in. model 34 (Rnd. Butt) last year for $300, cause I was tired of lookin' for a model 63. I put the wood S&W combat grips(3 finger) and it made all the difference, as far as handling and accuracy (looks great too in the Ruby color)  Great for those hikes in the woods or desert.

Sounds like you did Ok to me.  Besides, you don't run into them all that often. ( I did an impulse buy on a  98% 2" mod 34-1 for $300 recently myself. ) You'd probably have regretted it if you left to think about it and tried to come back latter. Great little guns.

Hey 44, I've got one of those charter arms pathfinders myself. Found mine last year ( $175, stainless, 3" 99% with box). While like yo said , it will never be a S&W, it is a  very nice little gun. Fit and finish are better than I expected from CA and it shoots better than I can hold it!

Just picked up a Model 63 in very good condition for $259.  Been looking for one for a long time now.

I just picked up a 4" 63 for... uh... a lot more than the other guns listed in this thread!

I've been wanting one for a long time, and they just don't seem to come up for sale around here that often.

This one has box/papers/unused cleaning tools, and is in almost perfect condition.

I wanted a shooter, so I may have been a little foolish to pay a premium for all the "goodies." I will be shooting the daylights out of this one!

If I spent too much for a shooter, that's OK. When I'm ten toes up, my wife can sell it to some huckster for $100!

EDIT: When will S&W "see the light" and start making the 63 again? It seems like the demand is there- the used ones sure tend to command a premium...

Maybe the sales were lagging due to the Taurus 94 and Ruger SP101? I don't know, but there's something classic about the 63 Kit Gun.

I own a couple of SP101s, and 617s, as well. But they're not 63s, and I couldn't seem to get over the grief of that nagging hole in my collection!

I know the 317 is in current production, but I like my guns to be made of steel- not "unobtainium!" :money:

I feel your pain Howie, I also (reciently )paid allot more for my 63 ( with similar goodies). Nice part is that it's not going to go down in value andy time soon.  It was a nagging void in my collection as well. Besides how can you put a price tag on true love :-)
p.s. You could't give me two of those ugly , toyish 317's for my 63!
