Lube/size question
« on: January 15, 2003, 08:03:31 AM »
Having never even seen one of these or seen it done I am looking at a Lee lube/sizer. It looks like you put a bullet down, pull the handle and it goes up through the die into a container on top of the press. Is that right? Looks way too easy if that's it.

Another question, will the beeswax/crsico lube work in one of those?

Well you are correct . It is straight thru . The Lee is set up to use liquid Alox for a lube.
For smokeless this might work ok. I had one did not like it got rid of it.
That doesnt mean you might not like it. The liquid Alox in my opinion does not work well for BP. At the time I bought a Lyman Lubsizer and it has been a workhorse. Works well with the heater for hard lubes and workes even better with soft BP Lubes.
Now I have descovered the Star. HOLY MOLEY what a great lube sizer straight thru nose first . You can use the same top punch for almost every caliber out there. The best thing since sliced Bread.

I like the Lee Lube/Sizer and the Alox, but I don't shoot blackpowder cartridges.

You could lube the bullets with your beeswax/crisco, standing the bullets in a pan and pouring in the lube. Then cut them out of the lube with a "cookie-cutter" made from an unsized or oversized case. Then size them.

Thanks for the replies. So the Lee can only use thier stuff from what I'm hearing. That's ok. I have seen but not priced the Star. If I pan lube I think that's all I'll do because I'm hearing from using the Lee molds that are for cowboy bullets, you really don't have to size if you don't want to. It sounds like fun and I may get into it. Just trying to figure out what all I need to begin and have a nice set-up. I know you can start cheap but I don't really have a place for a stove to leave set up. I know myself and if I have to set up and tear down for each session, I won't do it. I'll want a pot and equipment that I can leave up in the shop. Then, I'll look for wheel weights. If I can find a good source then I won't start at all. Just kind of testing the waters right now.
