Hogue grips for the J-Frame
« on: July 28, 2004, 09:44:40 AM »
Guys,
I'm thinking about getting a set of Hogue rubber grips for my J frame to improve shootability. The current grips just seem to small and short for my tastes. Who has tried them, what model, how are they? I was considering the monogrip as it seemed to be the largest. Is the monogrip with top finger groove better than the plain monogrip?
Thanks,
Randy

If control & shootability are your primary concerns (vs concealment); get a set of Pachmayr®. These are the best; IMHO, especially if shooting an Airweight®.

I don't have a J frame but do have an N Frame,  Ruger security 6, and Ruger SP 101.  I also have a rather small hand.  I tried the original SW Magna grips and Pachmayr grips on the N and Ruger Sec 6.  Once I handled a friend's gun with Hogues, I went straight out and bought them for both guns.  I shoot much better with them as I can reach the trigger better.  Loved the factory grips on the 101 then tried some Crimson Trace grips. Still like the factory grips but the Crimson Traces fit well and I can shoot the 101 MUCH more accurately with the laser - you might want to consider Crimson trace laser grips for your J frame - especially if its a carry gun.

Hogue monogrip. Have it on my 3" GP100 and love them. They are a bit longer than most other brands, but not a problem as far as I'm concerned. I really like the feel of the material they are made of, too.

Randy - looks at the Pachmeyer grips - they come in 3 sizes for the j-frame.  I have a couple of those snubbies and each one came with either the tiny little factory grips or some equally tiny Uncle Mikes Boot grips and I couldn't shoot either gun fer schmidt until I put those Pachmeyers on there and they made all the difference in the world for me.  HTH.  Mikey.
