280 loads?
« on: July 29, 2004, 01:58:07 PM »
Any one out there with some good loads for a 280? I've tried 150 gr,120gr, and 139 gr. bullets, and still can't beat the 150gr corlokt's yet. This is really getting to me to not be able to handload some BT's that will beat the factory green box stuff.   Digger

Ditchdigger.
I have loaded 60.0gr of Reloder 22 and a 139gr Hornady Interlock with outstanding results but not in a Handi. In a Handi I would start with 56.0gr and seat the bullet .010" from the lands or just touching the lands. Try both seating depth and see. Reloader 22 has been one of the best performer in the 280 Rem, 280 AI and the 7mm Mag with both 140 and 139 bullets.

Keep in mind that the Rem factory 280 Rem cartridges are very much underloaded because of their springy auto and pump rifles in 280. If you find them to shoot well try to hand load you ammo with the same pressure parameters.

Check the factory ammo with a chrono and make your loads  the same velocity with slow burning powders.

I also used  Reloader 22 in a 243AI using 95gr VLD bullets this powder gives high velocity with low pressure with high load density. in other words nearly full cases of powder. Fred M.

Fred the 150 corloks are 2975 fps. I've got Rel. 19 and Imr 7828 along with IMR 4350 and Rel. 15.  I can match the 1 1/2" with Rel. 19 but can't get any better with it. The Nosler BT's have always shot well for me but this is a totaly different animal ( H and R Ultra) . I've already tried .010 off the lands up to .o15 and still no groups. I'll try .005 next. Digger
