I have a number of Rynite (synthetic) forends for my 14" and 10" barrels. I am not real fond of the harris barrel clamp so I decided to try mounting it another way.
Surprisingly one of the sling swivel studs I had was exactly the same threads as the bolt that holds the forend on. I shorted up the threads on the stud, used an end mill to but a slightly larger hole in the forend and screwed the whole works together. Needed to play with the number of threads and the depth of the hole to get it to snub up tight in the right mounting position but its there. The base of the bipod fits the contour of the grip almost perfectly and when you mount a bipod to a rifle it goes on the sling swivel.
Anyone see a problem using it this way? Unfortunately the ranges here are all closed till spring so I cannot test it. Sure looks a lot cleaner than the large clamp arrangement and doesn't mar the barrel....
