Russian Boar Hunt

We are considering a motorcycle ride from central Illinois to Lacona NH Bike rally and races,  next June. Does anyone here know of a place that has Russian Boar hunts along the way? We will probably take Interstate 80 all the way to my sons in Glouster Ma. Seems like I once saw of one in upper New York? Would appreciate any info, numbers, links, etc. Thanks in advance, Steve

There is a well run preserve in Fairlee Vermont called Wild Hill.  They have some excellent wild boar hunts that are quite reasonably priced.
Their boars are just as close to pure russian as you can get. They are all pretty much black with straight tails, small hips and coarse hair.  I don't think you'll find much better and its just a little of your course to Laconia. Having never been boar hunting but really wanting to try it, let me know of any info you can pass on. I live in central Iowa, and have a daughter near Dayton, oh. On the way there is a well recommended hog site in Indianna. I have not tried it out but on several boards I have seen favorable comments. A great place to hunt German/Russian boars plenty of room for them to run and hide;) they range close to 200-300 pounds average. To be honest, I would not be hunting Hogs during the warm weather, man that would be tough, all kinds of biting bugs, thick brush, sweat and hotter than a mother. The late fall to winter is the best time to enjoy hunting hogs, much cooler, just a heads up. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

Rmaouleart, understand your thought about the time of year but, I work construction and will have about two weeks to do everything that I want to do, as far as a vacation goes. Have to make as much hay as I can while the sun is shining.

Keep in mind it is illegal for a non resident to bring a handgun into NY state.

According to the Firearms Owners Proctection Act, you should be able to travel through places like New York State if you have the gun locked in a case, unloaded and the ammunition in a separate case.

You can go to the NRA website and see the law.

I'm not shure , I would think that you would have to go by your state of residence . Of course I'd look it up before I went,be pretty mad to lose my gun to a liabral,anti gun state..

Gregory, Are you sure that I can't take my pistol in a locked case accross New York state?

NON-RESIDENTS
 
No person may carry, possess or transport a handgun in or through the state unless he has a valid New York license. (A provision of federal law provides a defense to state or local laws which would prohibit the passage of persons with firearms in interstate travel. If a person is traveling from any place where he may lawfully possess and transport a firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and transport such firearm and the firearm is unloaded and in the trunk. In vehicles without a trunk, the unloaded firearm shall be in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. Necessary stops, e.g., gasoline and rest, seem permissible

The way I read it, you violate NYS law by bringing a handgun into the state, even if it's locked in a case and in the trunk.  But federal law says you can.  So who gets caught in the middle of this.....you.  I wouldn't risk it, unless your travel companion is a lawyer.
